Standing Through The Challenges

Whenever I think back to the challenges I’ve had in my life, the trials, the struggles, and the low points where I thought I would never be able to stand again; I remember that for each one of those moments, there was a bigger moment where God took hold of me, wrapped his arms around me, and provided me the strength I needed to decide that I wasn’t going to allow myself to feel that way anymore.

For each of those times, there was a morning I got out of bed and decided that instead of allowing myself to feel down that day, I was instead going to use the strength that God had given me to STAND, to do my best to keep a smile on my face, and to not allow any negative thoughts to enter my mind. The moment that Satan tried to distract me with a negative thought, I would quickly think of something positive to replace it.

For each of those low points in my life, I can never remember the exact day I decided I wasn’t going to allow myself to feel that way anymore…I just know that the one day of positive thinking and changing my focus, turned into several days of positive thinking, which then turned into weeks, and finally months, until I eventually put the challenge or trial I was going through behind me. It wasn’t me, it was God. Did I have setbacks? Of course, though God was always there to provide me the courage I needed to stand again. Without Him, I wouldn’t have been able to.

Keep in mind, this won’t always be as easy as it sounds. There are some trials and challenges that you will put behind you, but you will never be able to completely forget. These might be a loss of a loved one, a hard lesson learned, a mistake you wish you could go back in time and fix, or a time when someone you trusted betrayed you. Through prayer and patience, God can give you a new perspective for each of these events.

While we all wish we could go back in time and change something in our lives, we also have to remind ourselves that God already knew we would go through those things. He knew everything we would go through in life before we were even born, and he knows every choice we will make, both wise and unwise. We often ask, “If God knew we would make those bad choices and go through those challenges, why would he allow us to, knowing that they would only hurt us?”

God has a purpose for everything. He allows us to make choices in life, just as he allows us to choose whether or not to follow Him and love Him as our Lord and savior. He gives us free will! He doesn’t allow bad things to happen to us, sin does. What God does allow though, is bringing us lessons, experience, strength, and wisdom out of those bad things. He does this through His grace and mercy. All we have to do is go to Him in prayer and ask. It won’t always happen as quickly as we want, but God can and will use those things for His glory! Don’t give up, keep pushing through, and know that the trial or challenge you are facing right now is only temporary. God WILL see you through. Whenever you feel overwhelmed in life, remember this verse, and know that you are never alone:

Isaiah 40:29-31

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
